One of our philosophies at DE Coffee Company is the concept of gezellig. Pronounced (heh-zale-ig), this term plays a large factor in Dutch life and European culture in general.
Gezellig as a term is difficult to translate, descriptive words help us understand but its true meaning cannot be realized until you are able to recognize the feelings and emotions invoked by a gezellig situation.
According to Wikipedia, “A perfect example of untranslatability is seen in the Dutch language through the word gezellig, which does not have an English equivalent. Literally, it means cozy, quaint, or nice, but can also connote time spent with loved ones, seeing a friend after a long absence, or general togetherness."
To DE Coffee Company it also means comfortable, relaxing and friendly as well as quality and enjoyment. Life is full of simple pleasures, make sure to recognize and enjoy them.
